- Before deploying the ramp, ensure the vehicle is in park and on a section of unobstructed level ground to allow for safe loading of the wheelchair occupant.
- Push the ramp inwards and pull the latch release upwards to unlock the ramp latches as you draw the ramp away from the vehicle. Unfold the short section of ramp and lower it to the ground, as illustrated.
- Once the ramp has been lowered, the wheelchair passenger can be escorted up the ramp and into the vehicle.
- The wheelchair passenger should be seated in a forward facing position, in the centre of the vehicle, near the front of the lowered floor.
- Once the passenger has been safely positioned, lock the wheelchair in place by applying the wheelchair brakes.

Never attempt to enter the vehicle in a wheelchair unless being assisted by a person capable of guiding the wheelchair up the ramp and into position for safe transportation.

2.2 Securing the Wheelchair
|
- Fasten the front retractors to the L-tracks located on either side of the floor. To attach a retractor to the L-track, push down and slide the retractor fitting in either the forward or rearward direction along the L-track until the spring-loaded plunger is seated into the track. Both the left and right retractors should be located the same distance from the front of the fibreglass floor.
- Pull firmly on the fitting to ensure that the plunger is properly seated and locked into the track.
- To remove the fitting, lift the lock plunger and slide the fitting in either direction while pulling it out of the track.
- Once the retractors have been fastened to the L-track, the retractor tie down strap can be attached to the wheelchair.
- The front securement point should be positioned as high as possible for maximum safety. Refer to the QRT MAX Instruction Guide for ideal fastening geometry.
- Attach the J-hook as prescribed by the wheelchair manufacturer. Allow the retractor to spool in and remove excess slack in the tie down once the J-hook has been attached.
- Attach the rear Slide N Click retractor by pulling the retractor anchor across the disk on the floor. When locked, the assembly can rotate but cannot be removed from the floor mounted disk until the locking pin is lifted.
- The rear of the wheelchair may now be secured to the Slide N Click retractors. Attach the J-hooks to the locations outlined in the wheelchair owners’ manual. Refer to the QRT MAX Instruction Guide for ideal fastening geometry. Allow the retractor to spool in and remove excess slack in the tie down once the J-hook has been attached.
- Where attachment to the wheelchair is not possible with the J-hooks, the use of a Q’Straint webbing loop is acceptable if affixed by either method to the wheelchair as shown in the adjacent diagram.
- All four of the retractors have a red tab protruding from the rear of the units. This tab is used to release the locking mechanism within the retractor allowing the user to either extend the tie down or release the wheelchair from its restrained position.
- When the retractors are not in use, the Liberty Motor Company spare tire cover provides a safe storage area for the retractors and occupant restraints.

2.3 Occupant Restraint System
|
- The supplied QRT MAX occupant restraint system is made up of three pieces much like those of a regular vehicles restraint system. Lap belt, belt buckle, and shoulder belt. The system should only be used as a unit and not in individual parts.
- The lap belt and buckle portions of the restraint attach to the rear Slide N Click wheelchair restraints via a pin connection. Attach each section to the retractor as illustrated in the adjacent image.
- The lap belt section attaches to the driver side rear retractor and the buckle section attaches to the passenger side rear retractor.
- Pass the buckle end and the lap belt end through the left and right sides of the wheelchair where they will be able to be positioned as low as possible across the pelvis of the occupant.
- Attach the shoulder belt portion to the pin connection at the rear roofline of the vehicle and on the pin connection on the lap belt tongue.
- Once all the connections have been made, the lap belt may be fastened to the buckle to restrain the occupant. Adjust the belts to secure the occupant but take caution not to over tighten and cause discomfort to the occupant.
