Rear Entry Wheelchair Accessible Minivan Benefits

In general, rear-entry minivans are more cost effective and larger wheelchairs can enter into and exit from these vehicles more easily than a side-entry minivan. Moreover, a rear-entry vehicle undergoes less structural change than a side-entry minivan. The ground clearance measurements of these converted vehicles, which are about one to two inches higher than side-entry minivans, are also similar to unmodified vehicles.

When entering a rear-entry minivan, the mobility device user faces forward and can ease up the ramp and into the vehicle. Up to two passengers who use wheelchairs can be accommodated mid-van, within the vehicle’s protective main frame. They are also seated at eye level along with ambulatory passengers. When it is time to park the minivan, no curbs, special parking, or permits are required. Exiting the vehicle is easily done, as its ramp slopes moderately to the ground.

A rear-entry minivan continues to offer the same driving and handling abilities that it had when it was originally manufactured.
