Find Van Conversions Online

Van conversions represent a new level of freedom for people using mobility devices. Much of the physical effort that goes into transporting a person and his mobility device is eliminated through the use of a ramp or wheelchair lift.

Characteristics of a Conversion Van

Adapting a van to make it handicap accessible requires several changes to be made to the interior of the vehicle. Doorways of the van may need to be widened to provide access to wide scooters and wheelchairs. A ramp or lift is built into the van, letting passengers to enter the vehicle without leaving their chairs. Floors are lowered to provide easy entry to the vehicle and to allow people using mobility devices to be at eye level with their fellow passengers and exterior surroundings. No-skid surfaces and lockdown accessories are installed on the floor to prevent slipping and unwanted movement of wheelchairs during transit. Seating may be reconfigured in several ways to maximize the number of passengers that can be transported at one time. A conversion van may also be fitted with hand controls and other adaptive equipment for drivers who are physically disabled.

During the conversion process, only the interior of the vehicle is altered. The outward appearance, safety features and mechanical workings of the vehicle are not compromised.
